Spooner Lake District
Lake & Watershed Planning Grant
As our activity calenders are set with the
changing of seasons, we are aware that our
2003 year rapidly came to a close. With it's closing, the
Spooner Lake District's Phase 1
Lake Planning Project was completed. A complete copy of
the 2002 research report is on
display at the Spooner Memorial Library.
We are pleased to report that the Spooner
Lake District has again teamed up with
Cedar Corp. and the U.S.Geological Survey (USGS)
and were successful in attaining the
Phase 2 Project approved for funding under the Wisconsin's
DNR's Lake Planning Grant
Program. After DNR review and project negotiations, $10,000
of the $14,765.51 total
project costs will be funded by the State Grant Program, said
Joe Banick, president of the
Spooner Lake District.
The Spooner Lake District's 2004-2005 project is a
multi-phased project to
complete summer in-lake water quality monitoring by USGS,
flow and water quality data
collected in Crystal Brook at HWY 70 by USGS; and District
Volunteers will read a staff
gage twice a week at the Spooner Lake Dam to attain out-flow
data. Watershed
characterization and sub area delineation will be completed
by Cedar Corp.
Herbicide treatments of the channel were suspended
in 2003 and will be suspended
again in 2004.
