Eurasian
Watermilfoil
is a concern
on Lake Nancy
in Washburn
County. First
observed in
the lake in
1989, it has
expanded to
currently cover
approximately
ten acres.
In early July,
2001,
volunteers from
the Lake Nancy
Protective
Association
spent a day on
the water
harvesting the
Eurasian
Watermilfoil
by hand.
This was a
labor intensive
effort which
resulted in
about one acre
being cleared.
Many trailer
loads of the
heavy, wet
weeds were
carted off to
a farmer who
had agreed to
accept the
stuff as
fertilizer on
his field.
